About the Journal

The Blue Nile Journal of Agricultural Research (BNJAR) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal that focuses on publishing high-quality research in agricultural sciences. The journal is an open-access journal published by the Amhara Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI). Established in 2019, it serves as a platform for researchers, scholars, and practitioners to share their findings in the field of agriculture. The journal emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and collaboration, aiming to advance agricultural knowledge and address challenges in Ethiopia and beyond. BNJAR publishes a variety of content, including full-length research articles, review articles, and short communications, covering topics such as crop science, soil science, animal science, agricultural economics, and more. It is published twice a year in both print (optional) and online formats.

Blue Nile Journal of Agricultural Research (BNJAR)

The Blue Nile Journal of Agricultural Research (BNJAR) is a peer-reviewed, international scientific journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and innovation in the agricultural sciences. Established in 2019, it has rapidly become a key platform for disseminating high-quality research findings relevant to Ethiopia, the broader African region, and the global scientific community. BNJAR operates under a Diamond Open Access model: BNJAR articles are freely available to readers, and authors are not charged any publication fees. In other words, BNJAR is both free to read and free to publish, ensuring equitable access and dissemination of knowledge.  

Publisher and Institutional Foundation

BNJAR is published by the Amhara Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI), a premier regional research organization established in 2000 (https://www.arari.gov.et/index.xhtml). Headquartered in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, ARARI coordinates agricultural research across the Amhara Region through an extensive network of 7 research centers, 5 sub-centers, and 41 trial sites. With a staff of over 1,100, including numerous MSc and PhD holders, ARARI's mission to generate sustainable agricultural technologies provides a robust and credible institutional backbone for the journal's scholarly activities. 

Scope and Coverage

The journal boasts a remarkably comprehensive and interdisciplinary scope, reflecting the complexity of modern agriculture. It welcomes original research in both applied and basic fields, including but not limited to:

Crop and Plant Sciences: Agronomy, plant breeding, genetics, physiology, pathology, biotechnology, and horticulture.

Animal Sciences: Animal husbandry, veterinary science, breeding, nutrition, apiculture, and aquaculture.

Natural Resource Management: Soil science, conservation, irrigation, climatology, forestry, and agroforestry.

Agricultural Technology & Economics: Agricultural engineering, post-harvest technology, food science, agricultural economics, and extension.

Cross-Cutting Themes: Climate change research, environmental science, GIS, statistics, and gender issues in agriculture.

Access Model: All articles published in BNJAR will be Open-Access articles distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0) (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.en), which allows others to remix, adapt, and build upon the work non-commercially, and although their new works must also acknowledge the original creator and be non-commercial, they don’t have to license their derivative works under the same terms.

 

Peer-reviewed type: BNJAR adheres to a double-anonymous peer review system, ensuring that both authors and reviewers remain unidentified to each other throughout the evaluation.
